The Bad Decision
The Whisky Hut
Nestled deep within the breathtaking high country of Glenmore Station, The Bad Decision offers a truly one-of-a-kind alpine experience. This iconic private sanctuary, accessed only by foot, skis or a helicopter flight, is perched at 2,100 metres (6,800 feet) on a mountain saddle and is the perfect exclusive escape for whisky lovers and adventurers alike—a place to enjoy a dram (or two!), or swing a golf club, surrounded by nothing but majestic mountains.
The hut earned its memorable name from a legendary moment involving Will Murray, owner of Glenmore Station. After a day of ski touring (and perhaps one too many whiskies), Will decided it would be a "good idea" for one last ski down the valley instead of taking the helicopter. He headed out the door, only to fall multiple times within 200 meters. Upon finally making his way back to the hut, he declared his attempt a definitive "Bad Decision," and the name stuck.

The Bad Decision is a bivvy style hut that rests on the ridge between the Falcon's Nest and Lady Emily huts.
The unique idea behind this hut is to enjoy a dram or two of your own whisky from Whisky Galore in Christchurch.
Your chosen bottle will be flown to the hut so when you are skiing past, you can stop and enjoy a drink in what we believe to be the highest whisky bar in the world (2,100m).
Your bottle(s) can stay in the hut for as long as you like, and it will be up to all ski touring parties to be respectful of the purchases of others. Of course, if you don't have whisky in the hut, you can enjoy sitting inside or outside, soaking up the sun, taking a break or sheltering from the weather if needed.
